The 2024 NFL draft is approaching, and the Los Angeles Chargers have a chance to draft a serious weapon on offense for years to come. LA holds the number five pick in the draft, and in this loaded draft, it’s almost impossible for them to get the pick wrong. However, the Bolts may not use their fifth pick.
Many insiders predict the Chargers will trade down in the draft, like PFF’s Brad Spielberger. Spielberger believes the Chargers will trade down with the Minnesota Vikings and go down to the 11th pick, as well as acquiring two other picks, one other first-round pick in 2024, and a 2025 third-round draft pick.
Some reports believe the Vikings are doing all they can to try and trade up to acquire a quarterback, specifically Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy. McCarthy has jumped up the draft boards in recent months, and the Vikings are one team that loves what they’ve seen from the 21-year-old.
The Chargers don’t need a quarterback in this loaded draft. Trading back would be ideal for the Bolts, as they will likely draft a top receiver or offensive lineman with their first pick. More improbably, this mock draft has the Bolts collecting another first-round pick. That is huge for a team that lost most of its explosive offensive weapons from last season.

A new era is upon the Chargers. Although a top-five pick is excellent, trading down for two first-round draft picks could be better for the team moving forward. We’re less than a month away from day one of the NFL draft.
