Vancouver Canucks prospects Anthony Romani and Melvin Fernström, who are both vying for World Junior spots for their respective countries at the World Junior Summer Showcase, collected their second points of the week on Friday.Watch: Canucks prospects Anthony Romani and Melvin Fernström each collect points at the WJSS

In the first match of the day, Canada faced Team Finland, where Anthony Romani showed off his quick vision and playmaking ability. Working a 5-on-3 power play, Romani threaded a quick-touch pass to Anaheim Ducks prospect Beckett Sennecke, who dropped to a knee and executed a perfect one-timer shot.

The assist marked Romani’s second point of the week, following a goal in the intrasquad skirmish against the second (Team Red) Canadian squad.

Although Finland briefly closed the gap to claw back from a 6-2 deficit, Romani’s assist contributed to an eventual 8–6 Canada victory.

The following game featured a rematch between the US and Sweden, where recent Canucks third round pick Melvin Fernström picked up his second assist of the event. Fernström, who was a healthy scratch in his team’s previous game, skated on the fourth line and the secondary power play unit.

Late in the second period, the 18-year-old seized a loose puck, turned in the neutral zone, and found his linemate Felix Nilsson — a Nashville Predators draftee — to double Sweden’s lead in the middle frame. Sweden would eventually secure a 7-5 victory over the host Americans.

Sawyer Mynio, the Canucks’ third representing prospect, was a healthy scratch for this match. Mynio did pick up a goal and an assist in the Canadian intrasquad game earlier in the week and skated on Canada’s third pairing with Zayne Perehk in their first game of the tournament.

The event will close out on Saturday, August 3rd, with all four teams taking action. Sweden will face Finland at 10:00 AM PT, while Canada will take on their rivals, the Americans, at 1:00 PM PT.
