Cameron Jordan, like many other players on the New Orleans Saints, is an older veteran in the league. The star defensive end, now 35 years old, is preparing for his 14th season in the NFL. Jordan isn’t an anomaly for the Saints, though. The team also has guys like Demario Davis and Tyrann Mathieu leading the way— all players who have been in the league for over a decade.
However, for all the experience New Orleans has, the team will rely on several young and inexperienced players in 2024. That’s especially the case on the offensive line, where the Saints are expected to add three new starters who have been in the league for three years or less. Offensive line is an important position, though, so these players will have to grow up fast.
With the Saints having their first training camp practice on Wednesday, Cam Jordan has already started to send a message to his younger teammates. Speaking with the media after practice, Jordan revealed he’s trying to preach a sense of urgency to the younger players. Understanding that he doesn’t have many years left, he’s letting his teammates know they need to get things figured out right now so the Saints can contend for a Super Bowl before he hangs his cleats up.

During practice, Jordan was seen giving out some tips to third-year lineman Trevor Penning, who moved from left to right tackle this offseason. When asked about the interaction and what he’s trying to get across to Penning, Jordan answered that he’s telling him any and everything to get him ready for the season.
The overall message he’s trying to convey is that he’s nearing the end of the road, and he’s giving his all every second of every day. However, if he’s going to capture that elusive Super Bowl, he’ll need his younger teammates, like Penning, to deliver with the same urgency.
With that in mind, Jordan expressed the team is pushing the young guys as hard as they can. They’re working with the entire offensive line to develop them as best as possible, as quickly as possible. Jordan and the other veterans are doing all they can to make sure youthful ignorance won’t be an obstacle for the team this season.
With over a month until the regular season, hopefully, the younger players will get this message and actually make strides with their performance. If they do, the Saints have a chance to make some noise in the 2024 season.
