This Boston Bruins newcomer should be a hit for the Original Six club.
The Boston Bruins have had a busy offseason. One of their most notable moves was signing longtime target Nikita Zadorov to a six-year, $30 million contract. While it is undoubtedly a big contract for the 6-foot-6 defenseman, it can be a great one for the Bruins.
It is no secret that the Bruins have been lacking a big, mean defenseman in their top four for quite some time. However, by bringing in Zadorov, they will have just that again. His 124 hits and 125 penalty minutes this past season effectively display that.
However, besides his immense physicality, Zadorov also makes an impact because of his shutdown defensive play. He uses his size to his advantage, which should make him a valuable addition to the Bruins’ blueline. In addition, his defense-first style of play will make him a guarantee for their penalty kill.
While Zadorov is a shutdown defenseman in nature, he can also be a threat offensively. In 75 regular-season games this past campaign split between the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks, he posted six goals and 20 points. Yet, he truly thrived offensively during the Canucks’ playoff run, recording four goals and eight points in 13 games. He also had an impressive 14 goals from the point in 2022-23 with the Flames.
With this, Zadorov should be an all-around solid defenseman for the Bruins. The team needed another impactful left-shot defenseman, and they have landed an excellent piece in Zadorov. He will now form a strong left side with Hampus Lindholm and youngster Mason Lohrei.
