The Boston Bruins are entering the 2024-25 season with a strong roster. They notably improved down the middle and on the blueline with the Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov signings. However, they also suffered some notable losses on the wing, as Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen both signed with the Vancouver Canucks.
Due to this, there is a hole in the Bruins’ top six at right wing heading into training camp. Recently, we here at The Hockey News Bruins discussed the Bruins’ top three candidates for the role. However, the Bruins also have a dark-horse candidate to watch for the role: Justin Brazeau.
After earning an NHL contract with the Bruins in February of this past season, Brazeau showed that he has the potential to be a solid goal-scorer. In 19 games, the 6-foot-5 winger posted five goals, seven points, and a plus-4 rating. Overall, the New Liskeard, Ontario native had a nice start to this career, and he has the potential to build off it in 2024-25.
While Brazeau is a big forward who throws the body (43 hits), he also has the skill and hands to become a more impactful offensive threat potentially. Thus, with the Bruins’ depth at right wing not looking the strongest, he has a chance of at least getting some chances in the Original Six club’s top six next season. In addition, he should get plenty of reps as a net-front presence for the Bruins’ power play, with James van Riemsdyk not being brought back.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what kind of training camp Brazeau puts together for the B’s. If he impresses during the preseason, he should not be ruled out for a big promotion in 2024-25.
