Boston Bruins Prospect Goaltender Heads Overseas

The Boston Bruins now have one less goaltending prospect in their system, as Kyle Keyser is heading over to Russia to play for the Kunlun Red Star after spending the first five seasons of his professional career in North America. Keyser has played in both the ECHL and AHL, playing in 42 games at the ECHL level while putting up a 16-19-2-2 record with a 3.31 GAA, .891SV%, and one shutout while spending the majority of his time with the Maine Mariners but would also see time as a member of the Atlanta Gladiators and Jacksonville Icemen. The 25-year-old goaltender would also play in 73 AHL games, all coming with the Providence Bruins, putting up a record of 29-27-19 with a 2.83 GAA, .902SV%, and two shutouts. His only playoff appearance would come during the 2019 Calder Cup Playoffs, where he stopped 26 of 29 shots in a loss to the Charlotte Checkers.

For the Mariners, Keyser was one of four goalies who saw time between the pipes last season and struggled, going 5-8-2 with a 4.36 GAA, .868SV%, and one shutout. Heading into next season, expect the Mariners to rely heavily on Brad Arvanitis if they are able to re-sign him as he is coming off a very year after bouncing around during the 2022-23 season. The Mariners will also likely be on the lookout for a second goaltender to complete their tandem for the 2024-25 season, and it will be interesting to see if they sign someone with experience or a rookie out of college.
