Throughout the summer leading up to the regular season, we will go through the entire 2024 Cincinnati Bengals roster. Every single day until the season opener against the New England Patriots, we will break down a player on the roster including his background, contract status, and path towards making the team.
Today, we show some appreciation to long snapper Cal Adomitis. Bengals fans know the pain of not having a long snapper for even one play. Adomitis has proven to be as reliable as his predecessor, which is why he’s back for a third season in the Queen City.
Cal Adomitis
- Age: 26
- Year: 3rd
- Position: Long snapper
- College: Pittsburgh
- Previous Teams: None
- Jersey Number: 48
Adomitis signed with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent following the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent five years at Pittsburgh from 2017-21, which happens to be his hometown as well. He played in all 64 possible games for the Panthers at long snapper and received the Patrick Mannelly Award, given to the nation’s top long snapper, in his final year in 2021. He was also named a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) that year.
The Bengals were thinking about the future at long snapper in 2022 when they brought in the best one out of college. Long-time veteran Clark Harris was entering the last year of his deal at the age of 38, and the plan was for Adomitis to bide his time on the practice squad as Harris finished out his final season in Cincinnati.
Those plans went awry when Harris suffered a season-ending biceps injury in Week 1 of the season. The Bengals had no choice but to promote the rookie Adomitis the next week, and he hasn’t let the team down since. Adomitis has had 288 playable snaps on 288 attempts since taking over nearly two years ago. It’s why the team re-signed him in the offseason.
Contract details
Adomitis signed a one-year exclusive rights free agent deal this offseason that will pay him the minimum salary for a player with his level of experience for the 2024 season.
His salary will cost $985,000 for the entire season if he’s kept on the team for the entire regular season, and his cap hit is same.
Roster chances
Adomitis is the only long snapper on the roster. No competition means no worries for Adomitis. He’s locked in for this season, and if he continues to be flawless, a long-term contact should be in store for him next offseason.
Chances of making the roster: 100%
