Austen Kroll is a proud daddy… well, a “proud plant daddy,” that is.
While watching the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, the Southern Charm cast member hopped on Instagram to share a quick update on his Charleston home — specifically his collection of indoor plants. Austen began the July 30 Story in his kitchen, where he showcased leafy vines cascading over his white cabinets down to his stone countertops. The footage also provided a glimpse at Austen’s chrome appliances and dark wooden floors, which led into the dining area and cozy living room.
Austen Kroll shows off his “thriving” houseplants
“All right, I’m at home watching the Olympics, and I just kind of wanted to highlight that I’m watering some plants that I’ve had in my house for a while,” he said while walking toward the tall guana chestnut behind his dining table. “I’ve had this one for three years or longer. It’s grown so much. I’m almost surprised that I haven’t killed it. But I guess I’ve done just enough to keep these things alive and thriving.”
Austen then walked into his living room and through the French doors that led to his office. The space featured cadet blue walls, a small desk, overlapping area rugs, a pair of leather chairs, and some framed wall art. Austen then made his way toward the window, where he highlighted a potted plant that was taking up too much space.
“I have one in my office. It might be a little too big for my office because you can’t even sit in this chair,” Austen said as he continued his watering. “But it’s a great plant and it looks like it’s thriving. I just water them once a week. Anyways, I think that they’re thriving. Does this make me a plant daddy, or…?”
Austen Kroll teases a possible home addition: “I think I want a…”
The Southern Charm-er concluded the Story with a panoramic look at his home’s open-space layout. The video captured the white staircase at the entryway, the pendulum lighting in the dining area, as well as several bookcases and shelving units.
“Just a proud plant dad,” Austen captioned the Story, before teasing a possible addition to his plant family. “I think I want a cactus.”
Austen purchased the Charleston house in 2021 and spent the following years updating the property with personal touches. He spoke about the journey in a 2022 interview with BravoTV.com, explaining why he was “immediately” drawn to the 2016 “turn-key” home.
“I am like an impulse shopper. I don’t like to go in and shop around and try on a bunch of things. It was kind of the same thing with my house,” Austen said. “It had all of the appliances in there. I got it for a hell of a price, and I love it… If you put that house in a different area in Charleston, I mean, it would easily be double or triple the price.”
