Rookie running back Trey Benson got the deal he wanted.
On Thursday, the Arizona Cardinals signed Benson to a four-year contract, mere days ahead of the start of the Cardinals’ training camp.
Benson was the last rookie to sign, with the rest of the class inking its rookie contracts earlier in the spring.
“I haven’t been anxious,” Benson said, via the Arizona Cardinals’ official website. “I knew it was going to happen at one point. I just kept my head down and continued to work.”
Arizona will report to training camp on Tuesday, July 23.
Benson, while at Florida State, was a productive running back. He racked up back-to-back seasons with more than 900 yards rushing.
He will be competing for playing time with James Conner, Michael Carter, DeeJay Dallas and Emari Demercado.
“He’s just like a sponge and he just wants to learn everything,” Conner said. “He’s got a great work ethic. He’s a good addition to the room. He’s going to help us a ton this year.”
As for the running back competition ahead of Benson, he appears ready.
“We all have a lot of different traits,” Benson said. “Us all combined, it’s one big monster.”
