Alvin Kamara, NASCAR team owner? That’s a possibility he discussed with Kevin Harvick, during the latest edition of Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.
The New Orleans Saints running back was asked about joining the likes of Michael Jordan and Pitbull, and what it would take for him to take his interest in NASCAR to the next level. After sponsoring a car in the Xfinity Series, it’s certainly something Kamara would have some interest in.
“I get that question a lot, and with anything, I feel like, especially this, right? This interest that I have been kind of involved with for four years. There’s the competitor in me, the fan in me and then the you know, I guess employee, kind of like the business side of it, where I’m like, ‘Okay, this is another thing I can sink my teeth into, and kind of get that competitive fix,’ you know, still be close to it in a fan way,” Kamara began, regarding ownership in a NASCAR team. “Still be close to it, working-wise, and then you know, it’s entrepreneurial, right? So I think, what was it, 2021? I kind of stepped into it. I just dove into it, with Ryan Vargas. I sponsored a car, I just was interested in like, seeing what the business side of it was, because, I mean I was going to races and kind of was like, ‘Hi Alvin, Bye Alvin.’ I’m at the race, checked off Atlanta. Checked off Bristol. Checked off Daytona. I’m like, ‘I don’t really know what’s going on.’ So I’m like, ‘Alright, well Ryan has a cool story,’ and I kind of just wanted to get behind somebody that had something, that had a story that had some grit, something that they had to fight through to get to where they are.
“So I hit up Ryan and his team, and they were open to the idea. They were like, ‘Well, what do you want to do?’ I was like, ‘Well, what can I do? You tell me.’ So I ended up sponsoring the car. Got the whole car. I had a juice company at the time, and I wrapped it with the juice company. Put my logo on the car. Sadly, Ryan didn’t finish the race. I think he had some technical problems. But it was just cool to step into that business side, because I don’t know what you guys go through racing throughout the week, from Monday to, I guess, call it Saturday or Sunday. I was kind of able to step into that. Monday was phone calls about the wraps, and this and all that. I didn’t even think that deep. I’m just interested in the cars, man. … There was so much that went into it, and I was grateful with that opportunity with Ryan, because it kind of sparked my interest.
Kamara continued: “So to answer your question, it’s not a no, but it’s just the right timing and the right opportunity, and I probably would be interested, because I think there’s a lot of room for growth in this sport, and if I could be involved, in a larger capacity than I am right now, I’d be interested.”
Since becoming involved in NASCAR, Alvin Kamara has been an awesome addition to the team, bringing the sport to a whole different part of the sports world. If he got into the ownership side of things, that could continue in a fascinating way, and there aren’t many involved in NASCAR who’d turn down his involvement.
