Alabama wide receiver says Crimson Tide will score 40-plus points a game

Are we about to see Alabama football return to the offense it had in 2018, 2019, and 2020?

Michael Locksley and Steve Sarkisian were the offensive coordinators of those groups, while Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones served as the starting quarterbacks. The Crimson Tide also had incredible wide receivers, including Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, John Metchie, and Slade Bolden. Najee Harris, a former Tide running back, was great out the backfield for all three teams. This year’s Alabama offense looks to be must-see television in the upcoming regular season.

Germie Bernard, a transfer from Washington, spoke to reporters after Wednesday’s practice.

After helping the Huskies to a Pac-12 Championship and a College Football Playoff National Championship Game berth, he believes the Crimson Tide’s offense will be better than the one he left that put four players — including three wide receivers — in the National Football League Draft. The Las Vegas (Nev.) native unveiled his point total prediction for Alabama every game.

“I think this offense is going to put up 40-plus points a game, in my opinion,” Bernard said.

The offense he played with in at Washington under Kalen DeBoer averaged 36 points per matchup, yet the Huskies had six games with 40 or more points. Bernard is around more talent at the University of Alabama, so this is about to be very exciting.

He said the chemistry between him and quarterback, Jalen Milroe has been good.

“We are hooking up on the field and finding the timing of throws,” Bernard said. “We communicate through practice, but off the field we watch film together. We just see where each other’s head is at so when we are on the practice field, we are executing and it translates to games.”

DeBoer, Nick Sheridan, and JaMarcus Shephard have an offense that is wide receiver friendly.

Bernard said it is the scheme that allows that position to make a lot of plays.

“It is just the way they scheme defenses and how they are able to get us open,” he said about Alabama’s offensive coaching staff.

“They are able to get us opportunities to touch the ball.”

This offense is going to be fun for wide receivers. We have seen several route concepts on display in preseason camp, so the offensive staff is preparing to see great on Nick Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium very soon.
