This Philadelphia Flyers forward has the potential to hit a new level in 2024-25.
The Philadelphia Flyers’ 2024-25 season was full of surprises. After entering the season expected to be among the bottom clubs in the NHL, the rebuilding squad was in the playoff hunt until the final stages of the regular season. One of their pleasant surprises was forward Ryan Poehling.
Poehling, 25, quietly signed a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Flyers during the 2023 NHL Offseason, and it is a move that the Metropolitan Division club must be ecstatic about. The Lakeville, Minnesota native proved to be a solid addition to the Flyers’ bottom six, posting new career highs with 11 goals, 17 assists, 28 points, and 62 hits in 77 games. It was a major step in the right direction for the 2017 first-round pick.
While Poeling is coming off a solid season, it is fair to wonder if he has the potential to make an even bigger impact for the Flyers in 2024-25. When noting that he is still young and in the earlier stages of his NHL career, he could hit another level next season.
If Poehling’s offense improves next season and he continues to be solid defensively, he would become a very important piece to the Flyers’ roster moving forward. While he has been a nice part of their bottom six, he could challenge for a top-nine role if he continues to trend in the right direction.
