This former Bruins defenseman has officially signed in the KHL.

Last month, reports surfaced that former Boston Bruins defenseman Steven Kampfer was set to sign a one-year contract with Traktor Chelyabinsk of the KHL. Now, the deal has been finalized, and the veteran will officially continue his career in the KHL.

Kampfer, 35, spent this past season with the Tucson Roadrunners, where he rocked the “C.” The Ann Arbor, Michigan native proved to be a solid part of the Roadrunners’ defense, recording three goals and 22 points in 45 games. As a result, he is a player who they will miss on their blueline this upcoming season.

Kampfer’s last NHL appearance was with the Bruins during the 2020-21 season. While in Boston, he was a solid extra defender who worked nicely when injuries occurred. In 113 games as a Bruin over two stints and five seasons, Kampfer had 10 goals, 25 points, 127 hits, and a plus-14 rating.

Kampfer has experience playing at the KHL level, as he spent the 2021-22 season with Kazan Ak-Bars, posting 11 goals and 30 points in 46 games. It will now be intriguing to see what kind of campaign he has for Traktor Chelyabinsk from here.
