Kampf and his son are seen holding hands as he exits the ice in an Instagram story posted by his wife, Elisa on Tuesday.

David Kampf is one of the many members of the Toronto Maple Leafs back on the ice this summer.

Although it may be the first time he’s been pictured in full equipment since June, Kampf has documented his offseason workouts throughout the summer, which began a week after he won gold with Czechia at the Men’s World Hockey Championship.

He has taken some time to himself, traveling with his family to Austria a couple of weeks ago. However, on Tuesday, the 29-year-old forward was pictured sharing a heartwarming moment with his young son, Michael, on the ice. Kampf, fully equipped for training, was seen holding his child’s hand as his on-ice training concluded, as shared on his wife Elisa’s Instagram story, which he reposted.

Donning his Leafs helmet and socks, the image highlights Kampf’s role not just as a professional athlete but also as a father to his almost two-year-old son in a touching interaction.

This may be a new picture to be hung up in the Kampf household.

Judging by the banners of former NHL Czechia players like Martin Straka, Adam Cimrman, Josef Kluc, and Vladimir Ruzicka (who was drafted by the Leafs 73rd overall in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft) hanging in the background, it can be assumed that the Kampf family is in Czechia – where he has spent previous offseasons.

After a 2022-23 season that saw Kampf score career highs in goals (7), assists (20), and points (27), general manager Brad Treliving re-signed Kampf to a four-year, $9.6 million contract with a cap hit of $2.4 million a season in the summer of 2023. In the first year of his new deal, Kampf scored eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points before tacking on an additional assist in seven postseason games in 2023-24.

Set to enter the second year of his current contract in 2024-25, Kampf, primarily a fourth-line center known for his defensive prowess, is expected to continue a bigger role on the team’s penalty kill.

Despite the rumors that Kampf’s $2.4 million cap hit could be moved, there hasn’t been much supporting evidence proving this. While it’s not impossible, all signs point towards Kampf staying put and attending the Leafs’ training camp in the fall.

Regardless, Kampf, a known health enthusiast, hasn’t slowed down his training in the offseason and is poised for a strong outing in 2024-25.
