Carolina Panthers safety Xavier Woods is focused on the much bigger picture in 2024.
The eighth-year veteran spoke with reporters following Tuesday’s session of training camp. And as one of the more overlooked defenders in the NFL, Woods was asked what he’s hoping to prove this upcoming season.
“I don’t wanna prove anything, I just wanna win,” he replied. “What were we at? Two wins? That’s the only thing I wanna prove—is to win. I think we’re all tired of losing here. I think this program, this team—the tradition is winning. We wanna win, we wanna get this team back up to the top where it belongs. And that’s the only thing that I wanna prove, and I think the only thing the guys in there wanna prove.”
Woods has played quite well since signing in Carolina two years ago—as he’s amassed 147 tackles and two interceptions while starting in all 29 of his appearances. But he hasn’t experienced many wins with the Panthers, who have gone a combined 9-25 since 2022.
But Woods believes that this roster has the capability to start lighting up the left side of that win-loss record.
“We definitely understand that,” he said of the team’s standing. “We was last. The worst team in the league, some people would say. But we know the talent that we have on this team, it didn’t really reflect our record last year. It’s an everyday thing. We have to go out there and actually take those wins, get those wins and execute.”
