Flyers Hіt Home Run Extendіng Stаr Forwаrd

The Philadelphia Flyers made the correct call signing Travis Konecny to his long-term extension.

Report: Flyers 'likely' to keep Travis Konecny to start 2023-24 season - The Hockey News Philadelphia Flyers News, Analysis and More

The Philadelphia Flyers’ 2024 NHL Offseason has not been the busiest, but they did make some notable moves. The most important roster move they made was signing star forward Travis Konecny to an eight-year, $70 million contract extension late last month.

Getting Konecny was a massive objective for the Flyers, as he is one of their most important players, both now and in the future. Thus, instead of worrying throughout the season about the prospect of potentially losing him, they extended him before the campaign even began.

It was a no-brainer for the Flyers to sign Konecny to his long-term extension. He is currently their top offensive contributor, and his 2023-24 stats effectively display this. In 76 games for the Metropolitan Division club last season, he led the team with 33 goals, 35 assists, and 68 points. He also led the Flyers in goals (31) and points (61) during the 2022-23 campaign. Thus, keeping him around is huge for their offense.

However, Konecny is far more than just an offensive force. The 27-year-old has also emerged as a critical leader for the Flyers during their rebuild. He offers steady two-way play and grit, making him an all-around impactful player.

In the end, while the Flyers will be paying Konecny a hefty salary for a long time starting in 2025-26, he has earned it through his outstanding play. It will be intriguing to see how he responds to landing this deal from here.
