Exciting news for Star Wars fans! The next installment in the ever-growing intergalactic universe, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, will premiere on December 3. The series, created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, takes place in The Mandalorian time frame. Walking Dead actress Kerry Condon, who portrayed Clara in season 4, stars.
In an interview with People, Watts and Ford, along with Jude Law, who stars, discussed the upcoming eight-part series. People reveal an exclusive first look at images for the series as well as the premiere announcement.
The official synopsis for the series reads: When four kids make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, they get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.
BAFTA award winning Jude Law leads the series as Jod Na Nawood, a quick witted, Force-user who charms his way out of difficult situations. He joined by child actors Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Wim), Kyriana Kratter (KB), Robert Timothy Smith (Neel) and Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Fern). Condon also stars with Tunde Adebimpe, Jaleel White, and Nick Frost as the voice of the droid, SM 33.
Skeleton Crew fits into the Star Wars franchise at the time of The Mandalorian and its interconnected spinoffs, which come after events in Return of the Jedi. Law was asked what fans can expect from this series, the “first word that comes to my mind is joyful.” He continued to state that the series focuses on the children who are forced to maneuver through locations they should never have to be and “seeing children in that environment in a Star Wars environment is thrilling and very, very unique.”
Jude also revealed that eagle-eyed Star Wars fans will be thrilled when they spot Easter Eggs that pay tribute to the original films. Watts and Ford pride themselves on the addition of the Easter Eggs and had “the fun and the challenge of finding some deep cut [references].”
Watts and Ford wrote all but the fifth and sixth episodes, which were written by Myung Joh Wesner. Directors for the series include Watts, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, David Lowery, Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Lee Isaac Chung. Andrew S. Eisen, who previously worked on The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, joins the project as editor
Condon, a BAFTA award-winner and Oscar nominee, spoke to Variety about her role in Skeleton Crew and her upcoming role alongside Liam Neeson in In the Land of Saints and Sinners.
“It’s so great. I don’t even have kids, but I’d pay to see this. I loved it. I loved being on it. There was something about it that was so innocent and playful and lovely. People say don’t work with kids or animals, but I don’t know about that. And also when children are good actors, they’re kind of out-of-this-world good. So watching some of the kids’ scenes, it was amazing. Jude Law’s in it and I’ve worked with him before. But it’s really adventurous and they got such great directors for each episode – the Daniels, Bruce Dallas Howard, Lee Isaac Cheung, David Lowery. It was a pretty amazing group. And of course, Jon Watts who created the whole thing. “
