It’s clear that the Golden State Warriors best era was when Bob Byers was with the team as its general manager. But among the few low points during his stint was the infamous punch Draymond Green threw on Jordan Poole back in 2022.
Right before the 2022-23 season started, the Warriors were holding a preseason practice game with the team’s notable players joining, such as Stephen Curry, Jordan Poole, and Green. The latter was seen getting in the young guard’s face, which resulted in Poole shoving the veteran. In response, Green lands a punch on his face, prompting their teammates to intervene quickly.
After that heated game, the front office decided to impose a fine on Green instead of suspending him. But even though things have been hashed out between him and Poole, the chemistry that ran through the Warriors’ roster was never the same after a video of the incident leaked out.
From there, Stephen Curry and the Warriors finished the regular season of that year with a sixth seed in the Western Conference. After handling their business against the Sacramento Kings in the first round, Golden State found itself facing LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in the conference semifinals. At this point, they fell out of contention when they lost to the Purple and Gold.
Since then, Bob Myers has left the organization and Poole has been traded to the Washington Wizards. Meanwhile, the Warriors’ All-Star forward underwent several altercations that caused the NBA to suspend him for quite some time this season.
Former Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers Reveals They Didn’t Find Draymond Green Punch Video Leaker
During an interview by JJ Redick on his podcast, The Old Man and the Three, former Warriors GM Bob Myers shared his experience while he was with the team. In a video posted on Redick’s YouTube account, he explains whether the franchise has found the individual who leaked the video of Green’s fight with Poole.
Coming off a year when they won a championship against Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics, the team was expected to win more as Curry’s window was slowly closing. Unfortunately, the altercation between Green and Poole was one of the major factors that led to a regression Golden State is currently experiencing right now.
Whether finding the leaker will happen or not will make less impact as time flies by. Hopefully, the Warriors can get it together this year to wash off the bad taste this incident has left on the franchise.
