The Arizona Cardinals will get back to practice on Thursday after a day off on Wednesday during training camp. We are a day closer to the start of the regular season. They will play their preseason opener in nine days but it is 38 days away from their first game of the regular season, when they are on the road in Week 1 to face the Buffalo Bills.
Wide receiver Daniel Arias is the player currently on the roster wearing No. 38. He has yet to play in an NFL game, spending parts of last season on the Cardinals’ practice squad.
The last player to make even a reasonable impact and wear No. 38 for the Cardinals was running back Andre Ellington, who wore No. 38 from 2013-2017.
He was a sixth-round pick in 2013 and quickly became a playmaker. He had over 600 rushing yards in his first two seasons and over 1,000 scrimmage yards. Those first two seasons, head coach Bruce Arians realized he wanted to try and get the ball to Ellington 20 to 30 times a game.
Injuries plagued him and his effectiveness diminished after 2014. He had over 1,200 career rushing yards through his first two seasons and finished his career after five NFL seasons with 1,752.
But he was electric when he had the ball in his hands.
The countdown continues tomorrow.
