Is Precious Achiuwa The True Backup Center Plan For The New York Knicks?

The New York Knicks are championship contenders…but what are they doing at the center position?

Chicago Bulls v New York Knicks

The Knicks had the perfect offseason…except they lost their number one option at center.

The Knickerbockers went all in for the perfect puzzle piece in Mikal Bridges…they are going to sign another center though, right?

Contenders are nitpicked at a different level compared to the average team. The Knicks are now in that category, and the NBA world openly opined what the team was planning to do to fortify a position of need over the past few weeks.

The question plaguing them is now a real thing after Isiah Hartenstein cashed in on a huge offer from the Oklahoma City Thunder. It left New York to rely on Mitchell Robinson. The same Mitchell Robinson that has played in less than 60 games in three of the past four years. That level of uncertainty for a team with the hopes of the Knicks is worrisome. For that reason, there were pundits and fans openly questioning what the team was planning to do to remedy that.

So the team waited. And waited. And waited. And, yes, waited. Until yesterday when they brought back Precious Achiuwa on a one-year, $6 million deal. The team finally has its backup center…for now.
