Outside of the original six NHL cities, no NHL fanbases have experienced more Stanley Cup success than the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers, who have each won five Cups. And so when the Jason Gregor show on Sports 1440 in Edmonton calls and asks to talk hockey, Pittsburgh Hockey Now says yes.
Gregor didn’t waste time getting into the crux of the Penguins’ offseason with PHN’s Dan Kingerski. Where is Sidney Crosby’s contract, and what will happen next? Gregory shared some of Kingerski’s views on Crosby’s potential future and questioned whether signing a deal in Pittsburgh was the right thing to do.
“We can infer that Crosby (contract) isn’t done yet. It’s probably more than T’s and I’s to cross and dot. There are legitimate issues to talk about regarding the Penguins’ future,” Kingerski said. “(Penguins president of hockey operations/GM Kyle Dubas) has lined everything up for the wrecking ball, and he’s letting the veterans stay as long as they want.”
Gregory and Kingerski agreed that sans emotion, the Crosby situation would be going in a much different direction.
The Edmonton host also addressed an equally important question about the Penguins’ offseason: Based on what they’ve done, are the Penguins better for this coming season?
The pair dove into the goaltending, the new defense corps, and back to the Crosby situation.
“Hey, there’s still a statue of Gretzky in Edmonton, is there not?”
