Walking Dead Zombie Variants In Daryl Dixon Season 2 Teased By Producer

Summary

  • The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon producer Greg Nicotero teases more fast zombie variants in season 2, inspired by Train to Busan .
  • The new season will showcase more dynamic and exciting undead threats as Daryl continues his journey across France.
  • Carol joining the show searching for Daryl opens the door for even more variant opportunities as their respective stories progress.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon producer Greg Nicotero has revealed more of what to expect from variant zombies in season 2 while speaking at San Diego Comic-Con. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 will continue the story of Daryl’s journey through France, also adding Carol to the mix as she travels overseas in search of her lost friend. The show is also expected to continue featuring variant zombies, which were revealed to have been made by the Pouvoir in season 1.

Screen Rant was on the ground at the Daryl Dixon panel during San Diego Comic-Con, where Nicotero revealed what to expect from zombie variants in season 2. The producer explained how the fast variants in season 2 are inspired by the South Korean film Train to Busan, hinting at more fast versions of the undead in upcoming episodes. Check out what Nicotero had to say below:

You see a few glimpses of them in the trailer, but I can say wholeheartedly, that we embrace the little Train to Busan-style zombies. So I think you’ll like it!

What To Expect From Zombie Variants In Daryl Dixon Season 2

New Types Of Walkers Are Emerging

Nicotero’s tease for zombie variants coincides with the dangers present in the Daryl Dixon season 2 trailer, which emphasized just how different they’ll be this time around. New versions of the undead include ones with pitch-black eyes and others that glow in the dark. However, while these new renditions of Walkers are going to be included in the series, it seems the older variants still have a place in the story about to unfold. The fast zombies in particular highlight just how dangerous the next step of the journey is going to be.

Since Daryl Dixon season 1 ended with confirmation the Pouvoir were responsible for the faster, stronger variants, season 2’s inclusion of them could help offer more revelations to their creation. Given the context clues in season 1, it appears they have something to do with the experiments the Pouvoir is running, although it’s unclear what their higher purpose in creating them truly is. Since their quick zombies will be coming back in the new episodes, it would be the perfect time to outline what they’re trying to do, and how it furthers their goal of gaining power across France.

However, since Daryl Dixon season 3 has also been confirmed, not all the answers surrounding the creation of fast zombies are likely to be addressed. Since new variants are also being introduced in season 2, they could all be tied together by the antagonistic group, only revealing small hints as to their larger purpose. But, with six new, action-packed episodes on their way, it seems like a matter of time before the dangers of fast variants gets explored even further.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 begins airing on Sunday, September 29 on AMC and AMC+.
