Celebrate 10 years of The Last of Us with four discs of eerie music and some gorgeous art
There’s a haunting minimalism to the music of The Last of Us, both the games and the HBO series. To offer a few more descriptors: sparse, brooding, eerie, melancholic — and honestly perfect for vinyl, which has now outsold CDs two years in a row, and which gives the music a more tangible, analog feel that adds to the ambience of a soundtrack designed to evoke a post-apocalyptic US. It’s a high point for composer Gustavo Santaolalla, who has a career of amazing high points, including Academy Awards for best original score for Brokeback Mountain and Babel.
For fans of The Last of Us and fans of great soundtracks alike, The Last of Us 10th Anniversary vinyl box set is a compelling get — and it’s currently on sale for the lowest price we’ve seen yet at $86.99 (was $109.98). The set has 55 tracks across four colored vinyls and features cover art designed by artist Ashraf Omar. The box also has two exclusive lithographs — one designed by Omar as well as one featuring original The Last of Us game sketch art — just in case you want something to hang on the wall above your record player.
