Pittsburgh Penguins President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas announced that the club has signed goaltender Sergei Murashov to a three-year, entry-level contract.
The Penguins drafted the Russian goaltender in the fourth round, No. 118 overall of the 2022 NHL Draft.
Murashov spent the 023-24 season split between the KHL and MHL, Russia’s top professional league and top developmental league with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.
While in the KHL, Murashov went 3-1-2 with a 1.84 goals-against average, a .925 save percentage and one shutout. At the MHL level, Murashov compiled a 24-4-2 record with a 2.03 goals-against average, a .930 save percentage and four shutouts in 34 games.
The 6-foot-1 netminder has had four seasons of MHL experience, putting together a record of 73-30-12 with a 2.04 goals-against average, .934 save percentage and 22 shutouts in 125 games. Murashov was named the MHL’s ‘Best Goaltender’ in 2022-23 after setting MHL career highs in wins, goals-against average, save percentage and shutouts.
Internationally, Murashov has represented Russia on numerous occasions and helped guide them to a gold medal victory at the 2021-22 Hlinka Gretzky Cup on a club that featured Philadelphia Flyers top prospect Matvei Michkov, Montreal Canadiens top prospect Ivan Demidov, Washington Capitals forward Ivan Miroshnichenko and more.
