Lindgren had initially filed for arbitration. The contract allows the 26-year-old to become an unrestricted free agent following next season.
The Minneapolis, Minnesota native has just finished up a three-year contract, which carried a cap hit of $3 million. The $4.5 million was a projected value for Lindgren’s next contract. He is coming off his fifth season with the Rangers, scoring three goals and 14 assists. His 17 points are just one shy of matching his career-high set during the 2022-23 campaign. He has scored at least 15 points in each of the last four seasons.
Lindgren was originally taken by the Boston Bruins in the second round, 19th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft. Before he got to the professional ranks, the former Minnesota Golden Gopher was traded to the Rangers in the deal that saw the Bruins receive Rick Nash before the trade deadline during the 2017-18 campaign.
Over parts of six seasons with the Rangers, Lindgren has appeared in 333 games, scoring 10 goals and 70 assists, including 11 points in 43 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Lindgren became a highly-touted prospect during his amateur days. At the University of Minnesota, he was a two-time Big Ten All-Star Team Honorable Mention. He has also represented his country on numerous occasions, playing for the United States at the 2014 World Under-17 Challenge, where the team won silver. Lindgren helped the U.S. win bronze at the 2016 IIHF Men’s Under-18 World Championship, and was a gold medalist at the conclusion of the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship.
