Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Briere announced that the club has agreed to terms with Rodrigo Abols on a one-year, two-way contract. The contract will have an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000.

The 6-foot-4 forward was initially selected No. 184 overall in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Vancouver Canucks.
Abols spent the 2023-24 regular season with Rögle BK of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) where he recorded 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points in 50 games. He tied for first in power-play goals, ranked second on the team in goals, and tied for third in game-winning goals. Throughout his time in Sweden, the Riga, Latvia native has tallied 85 goals and 78 assists for 163 points in 266 career games in the SHL in six seasons with Örebro.
The 28-year-old made his American Hockey League (AHL) debut during the 2019-20 season with the Springfield Thunderbirds. He collected seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points in 36 games.
Internationally, Abols has represented Latvia on many occasions including the 2014 Under-18 World Junior Championship Division 1A, where he helped the team win a gold medal. Abols also represented Latvia at the 2014 Under-20 World Junior Championship Division 1A, the 2015 Under-20 World Junior Championship Division 1A, and the 2016 Under-20 World Junior Championship Division 1A. He has also represented Latvia in the Men’s World Championship eight times, he earned a bronze medal in 2023 and captured a bronze medal at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
