Avalanche Wrap: The Free Agent That Wasn’t, The Free Agent That Could Be

MONDAY

The free agent market has dried up, which is to be expected at this point in the summer. There really isn’t all that much left that is of interest or would make a ton of sense for the Avalanche, but there is one guy who could fill a need and add some much needed size to the bottom six. He also wouldn’t cost a whole lot to bring in. I’m talking about former Panthers forward Steven Lorentz.

It’s hard right now to contain hype for Colorado’s second round pick this summer. He’s coming off a dominant KHL season and just stonewalled some NHL stars on some breakaways. Expectations going into year two in the KHL are high for Ilya Nabokov. (+)

TUESDAY

There should be opportunity in training camp for them to get noticed, but if it doesn’t happen this year, will it ever happen? It’s a big year for both Jean-Luc Foudy and Oskar Olausson.

Wednesday

I highly doubt the Avalanche came offering the same contract the Boston Bruins did, but it isn’t a huge surprise they came in with an offer. According to a report, the Avalanche were one of the teams in on Nikita Zadorov.

A little bit has changed since last season, so time to take a look at the organization depth chart.

With two big roles to fill in the organization, Colorado looked to the Penguins. A new Director of Amateur Scouting and Strength and Conditioning coach have been hired, one with connections to Nathan MacKinnon.

Thursday

Perhaps for a reason, expectations don’t seem to be super high around the league for Colorado’s goaltenders. That means there’s a chance for both Alexandar Georgiev and Justus Annunen to prove people wrong this coming season.

Friday

If you’re somebody that cares about this type of stuff, data has come out on which teams will travel the most this coming season. As it turns out, the Avalanche don’t have it all that bad.

Saturday

Like most teams, the Avalanche aren’t perfect at the moment. Here are their three greatest positional needs at the moment.

I’ve got my opinion on how I think the Central Division teams rank in my power rankings.

What’s Ahead

  • Remember the film rooms from last summer on the new additions? We’ll get started on those, although they don’t have that many new players. First up? Erik Brannstrom. These will be for CHN+ subscribers. Here’s some film rooms from the past year.
  • Time to bring back polls to get the pulse of Colorado fans.
  • Another feature we’ll bring back is over/under in regards to specific Avalanche players.
  • The three Avalanche players with the most to prove this coming season.

If you’d like access to film rooms, as well as other CHN+ features, please consider subscribing. In addition to those, you get ad-free browsing and access to all the other NHN+ content.
