Houston Texans WR Stefon Diggs Sees Massive Dip In Rankings

Stefon Diggs has been credited by some as the catalyst for Josh Allen’s success in the NFL. However, the new Houston Texans wide receiver has seen his stock take a hit this season.

Every year, NFL.com puts out a top 100 player rankings list. This year, Diggs saw a 40-player drop. In 2023, Diggs was ranked as the 16th-best player in the NFL. This year, he is ranked 56th. Here’s what was written by Coral Smith of NFL.com about the receiver:

“Diggs’ final year in Buffalo involved much discussion of off-field drama, but when he’s on the field one cannot deny his impressive ability to produce year after year. Diggs recorded his sixth consecutive season with 1,000-plus receiving yards, having hit the benchmark in each of his four years as a Bill, and tacked on eight touchdowns. His time in Buffalo might be over, but Houston is receiving a player still putting up WR1 numbers entering his 10th year in the league.”

Simply getting on the list is considered an honor for many players. However, the drop for Diggs is worrying. The ranking is voted on by active NFL players, meaning Diggs’ colleagues don’t respect his game nearly as much as they did in 2023.

These players are tasked with studying the player ahead of matchups, so they are not just going on stat sheets and gut feelings. That said, a look at his recent production shows a troubling pattern.

Stefon Diggs’ decline might be underway

According to Pro Football Reference, Diggs can only get hot for about half of a season. Last year, he racked up five games of at least 100 yards in his first six games. However, following that, he failed to record another such milestone game.

In 2022, he showed a similar early streak but mostly hit a wall. By Week 9, he logged at least 100 yards in six games. Following that, he hit 100 yards just one more time. His total production also slowed down between 2022 and 2023.

In 2022, he earned 1429 yards and 11 touchdowns. In 2023, he earned 1183 yards and eight touchdowns. Some fans believe a breath of fresh air with the Texans can revitalize his production back to something closer to his output from previous years.

However, based on the NFL.com ranking, it doesn’t appear that there is much hope right now. Is Diggs declining, or was he simply just not clicking with the Bills anymore?
