After a long 25 day wait, Travis Konecny signed an eight-year, $70-million contract with the Flyers on Thursday morning.

The contract has an average annual value of $8.75 million and will begin in the 2025-26 season. Konecny was entering the final year of his previous six-year, $33 million contract and became eligible to re-sign on July 1st.

Konecny led the league in short-handed goals during the 2023-24 season with six SHGs over 76 games. Konecny had a total of 68 points over those 76 games (33 goals, 35 assists) with an average of 19:01 TOI throughout the season. He was selected by the Flyers in the first round of the 2015 draft at 24th overall and has 400 points over 564 regular-season games (174 goals, 226 assists) and eight points over 22 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The Konecny contract came after quite a bit of speculation about what the contract would look like, quite a few people thought the contract would be over $10 million AAV. This would have put the Flyers even further over their cap space than they already are. After Travis Konecny’s contract the Flyers are $829,763 over their cap.
Konecny said in his press conference Thursday morning “I just wanted to get this over with and make sure that there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be a flyer for life and what we had been working towards and what I believed that this team can be.” General Manager Daniel Briere seemed to agree when saying “Travis Konecny is an integral part of the fabric of our team and we are thrilled to have him under contract for the long-term.”
