The longtime fan favorite and former Wild forward still remains a free agent. Cal Clutterbuck skated in all 82 games last season for the New York Islanders. He recorded seven goals, 12 assists, 19 points, and 273 hits.
Clutterbuck, 36, has spent the last 11 years with the Islanders after spending his first six seasons in the NHL with the Wild.
The hard hitting winger has led the NHL three times for most regular-season hits. He recorded 356 hits in his rookie year (2008-2009), 318 from 2009-2010, and 336 again from 2010-2011.
All of which were with the Wild.
In his Wild career Clutterbuck notched 62 goals, 48 assists, 110 points, 337 penalty minutes, and 1,457 hits in 346 games. Clutterbuck still holds the Wild’s All-time record for most career hits. Marcus Foligno is in second with 1,338 in 451 career games in a Wild sweater.
Given Foligno’s recent four-year extension, Clutterbuck’s Wild record will likely be broken as Foligno is only 120 hits away from passing him.
Clutterbuck currently holds the All-time NHL record for most career hits with 4,029. He is the only player in NHL history to have 4,000 hits or more. Matt Martin ranks second with 3,854 in 955 games. Martin is also a free agent currently.
Since Clutterbuck played in 82 games last year and played the way he did, I would imagine he will land himself a contract in the NHL for the next season. It will likely be up to him if he wants to play.
