Joe Burrow receives Hall of Famer’s approval to recreate his infamous touchdown celebration

There have been many memorable touchdowns Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has been a part of, but not many touchdown celebrations. He’s looking to change that this season by performing Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss’ “fake moon” celebration if he scores a rushing touchdown.

Now he has Moss’ blessing.

In an appearance on Up & Adams with Kay Adams, Moss said he’d approve Burrow bringing back his controversial celebration as long as it’s used in the right setting.

“Since you’re giving me some love I say do it,” Moss said with a smile. “It has to be the right situation. Somebody in their division.”

Burrow’s one step ahead of him. On Pardon My Take, Burrow agreed to do it on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers if he finds the end zone. Doing it at home would just be friendly fire against his own fans, and doing it against a non-rival wouldn’t be as impactful.

It’s why Moss, a Minnesota Vikings legend, pulled it out in Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers.

The celebration has lived been remembered so well because of how it was received at the time. Many found it disrespectful like then-Fox Sports broadcaster Joe Buck, who called the moment a “disgusting act” live on air.

But Burrow, who’s a proponent for taunting at the NFL level, wants to instill some enjoyment back in the game like Moss did all those years ago. Moss is on the same page.

“I think that just bringing something back and just paying homage to that, I loved it,” Moss said. “When I had done it, it was all in fun and taken out of context, so just bringing something back to create some more humor, I’d love to see it.”

Moss is on board, but the right time and place needs to be checked off for Burrow to fake moon an NFL crowd. Forcing the moment wouldn’t be as genuine and the affect won’t be as strong. There are certainly other games on the schedule aside from the Steelers’ road matchup where it could happen.

Maybe the situation doesn’t arise. If it does, Burrow will have Moss’ appreciation.
