In a preview clip of The Valley’s upcoming Season 1, Episode 7 Luke told Kristen he needs to see her taking more ownership for miscommunication errors that have led many in the group to view her as a “liar.”
“Jason [Caperna] and Jax [Taylor] said that some people don’t want to be around you and people are afraid of like, these allegations that aren’t true that are coming out of your mouth when you are triggered,” Luke told her.
Why did Kristen say Jesse was going to divorce Michelle?
The conversation took place shortly after Kristen loudly declared at a group dinner that Jesse Lally planned to divorce his wife, Michelle, “within two months.”
It turns out, Kristen had incorrectly gotten the information from a conversation with Luke.
“I mean to claim that Jesse wanted a divorce in the next two months, that’s not something I ever said to you,” Luke told her in the preview.
Luke clarified that what he had actually told her about the couple’s struggling marriage had a different meaning entirely.
“I said he doesn’t see it lasting more than the next couple or few months,” he said. “I didn’t say he wanted a divorce and that’s kind of, I think, where people are calling you a liar is that a word is changed and that has different implications.”
But Kristen didn’t seem very receptive to the criticism.
“I agree,” she said shortly. “End of story.”
Luke continued to press the issue, asking, “Do you follow, like, that? When a word or two is changed, it can change the whole meaning.”
“Words are hard,” Kristen replied, once again trying to cut off the conversation.
“I accept that the way that I heard something and the way that I repeated it may not be correct,” she said. “I’m not doing a ‘but whatever,’ however, they know exactly what the f-ck they’re doing.”
She went on to add that she felt the Lallys were terrified about “skeletons” in their closet being exposed.
The comment is no doubt a reference to Kristen’s repeated insistence that she has been “protecting” Michelle all season by keeping a secret that had the power to destroy the Lallys’ marriage.
The explosive alleged secret was finally revealed at the end of last week’s episode (Episode 6), when Kristen claimed while leaving the party that Michelle had a “f-cking boyfriend for a year.”
Michelle has yet to weigh in on the shocking allegation, but regardless of the truth, Luke told Kristen he wanted her to focus more on her own actions.
“Stop talking about other people’s skeletons,” he told her in the preview clip. “Just own it. Just say I shouldn’t have said that. I messed up. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
“I feel like that’s all I say,” a visibly emotional Kristen replied.
“You don’t say it that way, you say ‘I’m sorry, but,’ That is not taking complete ownership for it,” he said before delivering the ultimatum: “I think if we’re going to move forward, that’s something that can’t keep happening.”
