Watch: Heat’s hot streak gives Celtics flashbacks to last year’s playoffs

The Heat aren’t a great three-point shooting team. Except when they’re playing the Boston Celtics.

The Heat made eight three-pointers in the first quarter Wednesday night, as they finished the period with a one-point advantage over the Boston Celtics in Game 2. Tyler Herro, Nikola Jovic and Jaime Jaquez Jr. all hit two triples in the first 11 minutes.

They also got a three from Caleb Martin, who stunned the Celtics in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals. Martin, a career 35.7 percent three-point shooter, went 22-of-45 behind the arc in Miami’s series win. 33.2 percent three-point shooter Gabe Vincent went 16-of-31 from long range in that series as well.

Boston is a huge favorite in this series, especially with Jimmy Butler sidelined for weeks with an MCL injury suffered in a play-in game. But Miami always plays the Celtics tough. This team also has a habit of not putting away lower seeds in the playoffs, forcing stars Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum to play excessive minutes.

If they continue their shooting from the outside, Boston might start having flashbacks to last year’s playoffs, when the Heat took a 3-0 lead before holding on to take the series in seven games.

The Heat didn’t cool off much in the second quarter, finishing the half with a season-high 13 triples.

But at the end of the half, Brown proved that the Heat weren’t the only ones who can get hot. Brown hit three straight three-pointers in the last two minutes, part of a run where Brown outscored Miami 11-3 by himself.

The Celtics would prefer not to get in a three-pointer war. But if that happens, they do have plenty of shooters.
