It is Sunday and we are less than a week until the Arizona Cardinals play their preseason opener at home against the New Orleans Saints. This is the last weekend without football for months!
The Cardinals’ regular-season opener against the Buffalo Bills on the road in Week 1 is only 35 days away.
The Cardinals’ current No. 35 is safety Veron McKinley, a guy who has never played a game with the Cardinals yet. He was on the practice squad for the final week of last season and then re-signed in the offseason. So he has not yet made an impact with that number.
Cornerback Christian Matthew wore No. 35 for just over a season. He started three games as a rookie and broke up three passes.
He didn’t really have an impact either.
In fact, No. 35 has been a non-factor for years. The last good No. 35 was a Hall of Famer, cornerback Aeneas Williams, who played a decade with the Cardinals and was probably the best cornerback in the NFL not named Deion Sanders in the 90s.
The countdown continues tomorrow.
